TITLE KATJA
Katja Grothe Eberhardt

What is your superpower?

Blockchain Labs for Open Collaboration (BLOC) designs and develops reliable, sustainable, and resilient digital infrastructures to support social and economic development, with a focus on equitable and secure access. We deliver traceability products across sectors and provide our global clients with consulting and feasibility studies, multi-stakeholder collaboration labs, research & development and venture building solutions. Our primary area of focus, Maritime Blockchain Labs (MBL), develops blockchain pilot projects together with industry consortia to solve industry-wide problems. Currently sponsored by Lloyd’s Register Foundation, MBL is the first industry-led initiative of its kind where we collaboratively source, experiment, prototype and test new value propositions of blockchain and digitisation in the shipping sector.

What SDG is your organization integrating into its core competency?

SDG 9 is our guiding star! It focuses our priorities, projects and resources in BLOC. Through projects we have worked extensively with SDG6 and SDG13.

Asset

Every hero has a villain – what challenges do you or your targeted group face?

We want to enable collaboration on key challenges such as contaminated fuel, carbon emissions, crew safety etc. across the maritime industry. Collaboration can sometime prove challenging in established industries, which is something we are working to solve every day.

What are you doing to overcome your villain?

Luckily, when the goal for collaboration is clear, urgent and relevant to all (such as in our case; when we are working on decarbonisation), this highly improves the chances of success. We also seek to be the non-biased party in enabling collaboration, which limits potential commercial or data sharing concerns.

Who is your hero and why?

My heroes are the new generations fighting for climate action. Greta Thunberg is such a role model for the young generations demanding change to save our planet. She is such an inspiration to me and illustrates how one person can make a big change in this world
